"Hey, I'm going down to the shrine!" I yell through the house. I perk up my ears and just hear my father call back.
"Ok, Be safe out there!" He's probably out in the garden, trying to keep the birds off the plants. Since mum died he's had it rough, having to get enough money to pay for looking after us, I've been doing my bit to help but, it's been hard.
"K" I call back and walk to the porch, slipping my shoes on before I leave.
"Onii-chan, onii-chan!" I turn to see my Imouto running up to me, almost tripping over her own feet.
"What's up squirt?" There's clearly a reason she's stopping me, if she wanted to come she'd have her coat on.
"'nii-chan, can you take these with you?" She's standing there holding an envelope and her... ahem, unmentionables, out at me.
"Why do you want me to take a pair of your underwear with me?" Now don't get me wrong, she's about six so she's requested some strange stuff of me before, but this is very strange.
"They're an offering, baka."
"Why those though?" I don't normally question my sister's logic but this was odd even for her.
"Well, I thought She'd like them would like them."
"The deity of the shrine's a kitsune... you know what, forget it. I take it that the envelope has your prayer?" I sigh, taking the items.
"Yup, Thank you Onii chan, oh, and don't open the letter!"
"You got it squirt." With a small smile, and a wave from my sister, I leave to the shrine.

"Hello?" I call out. No reply. The Shrine's not that big, so neither the priest nor the shrine maidens are here. And by maidens I mean a whopping two. I dunno where they could be. I approached the statue of the deity. A large stone carving of a nine tailed fox pointing out towards the town. I slowly walk up and place the offerings where they belong and pray. "I'm not sue if you can hear me, but I might as well try. You see, my sister's been pretty lonely since mother died. She's the only girl in the house has trouble making friends a school, and since Dad's trying to make ends meet to feed us he doesn't have much time to spend with her. I'm the only one she really get's to talk to and I just don't understand a lot of the... girl things that she'd want to talk about. So, do you think you could help her make a female friend, she's been trying but just can't do it. Oh, My sister wrote her prayer in the envelope, I don't know what it says because she told me not to read it." My knee's were starting to hurt from kneeling, I decided to finish up and leave. "I hope you can decipher it. Arigato gozaimasu." I tried to stand up but my legs were unresponsive and it just resulted I me falling flat on my butt. "What the.." I muttered under my breath. Was it just me, or was my skin getting paler? I didn't have time to ponder this question any longer as a vicious pain swept through my body. I could feel my bones and flesh constricting and getting shorter in every way imaginable. After about five minutes of pain I couldn't take it any more and blacked out.

I awoke with a groggy feeling... or I think I was away. The world around me looked pitch black. "Hmm, I bet you're wondering where you are?" A soft voice echoed through the blackness around me. I swivelled round and got from a seated position to me hands and knees. As I rose to standing, I got a good look at the woman in front of me, long purple hair, upon which two fox ears sat, framed a beautiful face with green eyes, a slender body wrapped in a plain, sandy coloured Kimono and nine purple fox tails swept along whatever was acting as the floor behind her. "Hello dear." The same voice flowed from her lips. I came to the realisation that this was the deity of the shrine, if not then it was some other kitsune, either way I wasn't going to take any chances by being rude.
"H-hello." My hands shot straight to my throat, my voice was very high pitched for some reason. The woman just stood there giggling.
"W-what happened to me?" I yelled in my new voice, completely forgetting who I was talking too.
"I answered your wishes." the woman chuckled. I gave her a puzzled look. "You wanted your sister to have a friend she could talk to about stuff you couldn't understand, and your sister..." She took out a piece of paper and help a pain of reading glasses between the paper and her eyes. "... Wanted you to be able to not have to work so she can talk to and play with you more." That must have been my sister's prayer she was reading. "That girl must really adore you." The woman sighed, putting the glasses and note away. "So... hopefully, This will work." She slowly walked towards me. I started shrinking back as I realised something. Up until now I thought she was just standing a decent distance away, but no, as she got closer I quickly realised, she was a giant. I barely came to her hip. "You certainly came out just as I remember being." Those words confused me, I was about to ask what she meant when she picked me up and carried me to a mirror. I don't know where it came from, but what was reflected shocked me to no end. There was the deity holding a miniature version of herself, but with orangey bronze eyes and with kimono sleeves that covered her hands with room to spare.
"AAh." I yelled. I looked no older than six.
"Ow." The deity yelled, she suddenly started to fade. "Stupid Aria labouring me with those two trouble..." She rambled off before fading completely.

I woke up with a start and as you do, I inspected myself to see if it was all just a dream. It wasn't, the clothes were a bit different, it looked more like a long coat and had a red ribbon tied at the chest, underneath I was wearing a plain white dress. the sleeves still swallowed up my hands though. What... what was I going to do?
"Come on Papa. I wanna make a wish." That... that sounded like my sisters voice, and it's coming here. I shuffled closer to the statue as I saw their silhouettes at the door. Once they walked in there was something else I noticed. My father had a much nicer suit on than the one he normally wore to work. My sister was right at the payer alter, she had a very pretty coat on that was different from the one she normally wore; it was a brighter pink with fluffy rims instead of the crinkled look I was used to seeing. She knelt down prayed, my new ears weren't for show it seemed as I could hear every word she spoke.
"Please let me make a friend, I'm an only child and there are some things I cant talk to papa about." Only child... that means I was never born... I guess this tiny version of the deity's body is all that's left of me now. "Many people at school are kind to me, but then I find out they just want to be nice to me because Papa's second in command of a toy company." that explains why they're dressed better, dad's got a better job in this world. "Please let me have a true friend, one who will want to be friends with me because of who I am, and not what my papa does." Something decided that now would be a good time to put me in a tight spot, so it shoved me. Next thing I know I was kneeling down cradling my nose, having landed on it.
"Are you alright?" I felt my sisters hands on my shoulders. "Let me see." Moving my hands away, before I could protest, her eyes widened. "Papa!" She yelled. I looked at my sleeve to see blood.

After I was cleaned up I was told to keep my hand on my nose. "We should wait for her parents to come back before we leave." I could here my father mumble.
"Umm..." This was the first time I had talked to them in this body, I sounded so scared. "... I don't h-have parents." I manage to stutter out.
"You're an.. orphan?" my sister askes. I just nod my head slowly. Then something unexpected happened, she hugged me. It shocked me because the most affection anyone got from her was a chirpy smile or a pat on the shoulder, this was a full blown hug. Yet... as I fell into her hug more, it felt right, familiar, normal.
"My dear..." I turned my attention to my father. "...If you'd like... you can stay with us until further notice." tears started welling in my eyes as a smile crossed my lips. Turns out I got my wish... just not in the way I intended.
